DESCRIPTION:Join us for the launch of In Loving Riddles: the Poems of Joseph Sherman with editor Brian Bartlett. This reading will also be a discussion and retrospective of the work of late PEI poet\, Joseph Sherman. \nFrom seven collections of poetry by Joseph Sherman (1945-2006)\, his friend and fellow poet Brian Bartlett edited a selection published by Acorn Press in the fall of 2024. We welcome you to the first Nova Scotia celebration of this book. Bartlett will discuss and read from Sherman’s poetry. Note: friends of Joe’s from the local arts community\, which Joe knew well as the inspired editor of ArtsAtlantic\, are invited to read a favourite Sherman poem and say a few words about him.\nBooks to be sold by Kings Co-op Bookstore. \nAfter his youth in Bridgewater and Sydney\, Sherman lived in New Brunswick\, where in 1970 he completed the first M.A. Creative Writing thesis at UNB. Then in Charlottetown he was a hardworking editor\, beloved\, gregarious man about town\, and poet of great verbal vigour and wide-ranging empathy. DESCRIPTION:You’ve typed “The End\,” you’re proud as hell\, and suddenly it hits you: now you have to edit the damn thing. The revisions stage can be intimidating and frustrating for many writers\, but it doesn’t have to be! Join Molly Rookwood\, the owner of Rookwood Editing\, to learn how you can use the tools of professional editors to gain much-needed distance from your story and break the revisions process into manageable steps. \nMolly Rookwood will lead this workshop on self-editing on Wednesday\, March 26th 2025 @ 7pm. In-person attendance at Trident Booksellers & Cafe (Halifax) includes coffee or tea\, and a hybrid Meets option will be available. Sign up at Eventbrite. \nMolly Rookwood is the owner of Rookwood Editing\, providing content editing\, copyediting\, and Jewish sensitivity reading to self-publishing and querying fiction writers. She started her company after graduating from Toronto Metropolitan University’s publishing program\, and she has served as a volunteer and/or co-chair of local\, national\, and international editing organizations. When she’s not editing\, Molly teaches writing skills at the University of King’s College as the Foundation Year Program writing coach\, and in her free time she writes romance novels about Jane Austen scholars falling in love.
