We Met at the Bookshop: After-Hours Literary Speed-Dating

We Met at the Bookshop is a private, after-hours literary speed-dating evening hosted at Trident Booksellers & Cafe.

Designed for people who like reading, conversation, and being around others who do the same, this first edition brings together 24 attendees for a series of short, one-on-one conversations. Each round begins with a prompt card containing three literary-informed questions. Choose one together, then follow where it leads: into a book, a character, a scene, a memory, or some point of recognition that may have otherwise taken much longer to arrive at.

There is no assigned reading and nothing to prepare. The idea is simple: come in after work, get cozy, settle into one of the city’s loveliest bookshops, and meet people through a format that feels more generous than the usual scripts of dating.

For this preliminary event, the room will be arranged with 12 women looking to meet men, and 12 men looking to meet women. Future editions are intended to open into additional formats, including queer, mixed, friendship-focused, genre-specific, and themed evenings.

At the end of the night, attendees will have the option to indicate who they would be open to hearing from again. Contact information will only be shared where there is mutual interest.
